The City of Kimberley is updating the community’s Active Transportation Network Plan, which guides the development of routes to walk, cycle and roll around Kimberley safely, conveniently and comfortably.
What is active transportation?
Active transportation includes walking, running, rolling, cycling and using mobility devices. The active transportation network helps residents travel around Kimberley, provides recreation opportunities, attracts visitors, and contributes to the health and wellbeing of our community.
PROJECT TIMELINE
The work to update the Active Transportation Network Plan will take place over the next several months:
- Community Engagement: Fall 2026
- Drafting the Plan: Winter 2026
- Community Review of Draft Plan: Early 2027
- Adopting the plan: Spring 2027
ABOUT THE CURRENT ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION NETWORK PLAN
The current Active Transportation Network Plan was created in 2021 with the help of community input and feedback. Since then, the City has completed several active transportation improvements and has continued to see growing interest in pedestrian and cycling routes throughout the community.
While the vision and goals of the plan remain relevant, the City is looking to build upon the current plan by confirming the community’s current needs, renewing project priorities and identifying new areas for improvement.
