The City of Kimberley has a proud legacy of delivering community-oriented, recreational, and sport-focused programs through its existing ice facilities, which include the Civic Centre, Marysville Arena, and the Kimberley Curling Club. We recognize the significant role these facilities play in enhancing the quality of life in our region and the benefits they offer to residents. As our infrastructure ages, we face both opportunities and challenges. This is why we are embarking on this essential planning initiative and, more importantly, why we wish to involve the community in discussing and envisioning the future.
Through this engagement and planning effort, we aim to achieve the following outcomes while ensuring that your voice remains central to future decision-making:
- Ensure that ice facilities meet the long-term needs of residents, user groups and the broader region.
- Deliver a clear, objective roadmap for future capital investment, operations, and facility planning.
- Strengthen the role of sport and recreation in community health, tourism, and local economic development.
- Support equity and inclusivity in access to recreational opportunities.
- Evaluate the feasibility of maintaining, upgrading, or consolidating current ice assets versus constructing new, multipurpose infrastructure.
We are examining the best ways to invest in our arenas and curling centre. Our project team has developed three options, and your feedback will be crucial in guiding our decision-making process. During engagement, we hope to evaluate the current options while also exploring new possibilities and potential developments.
The City is exploring three options in the planning process:
1. Modernizing current infrastructure
2. Blended approach of Modernizing and Replacing
3. Full asset replacement - Build New
